Kerala Maternity Benefit Program (MBP) Scheme for Pregnant Women

The Kerala Social Justice Department has come up with a new scheme for the pregnant women of the state. The scheme has been named as “Kerala Maternity Benefit Program (MBP)”. Under this scheme, the state government will provide financial assistance (cash assistance) of Rs. 5000 to Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW & LM) on the bierg of the birth.

The situation does not change To offer some respite to such candidates and ensure nutritious food intake, Kerala State Government has implemented the Maternity Benefit Program. Another name of this scheme is Conditional Maternity Benefit Program, It will include pregnant as well as nursing mothers.


Cash Transfer Conditions Amount in Rupees
1st. Installment Early Registration of Pregnancy 1,000/-
2nd. Installment Received atleast one Antenatal checkup (after 6 months of pregnancy) 2,000/-
3rd. Installment Child birth is registered 2,000/-


Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 (Kerala Maternity Benefit Rules 1964)

This is a centrally sponsored scheme whose funds are shared in ratio of 60: 40 for Center: State. This scheme aims to provide partial compensation to the wage loss in terms of cash incentive so that women can take adequate rest before and after delivery of 1st child.
